CMD Frequently Ask Question(Registration Number: TX-4-757-300)This page is dedicated
to question and answers that the users have about CMD. We have posted the
responses because we thought it would be of value to the users of CMD. If you
don't see your question on this page, it was probably filtered or combined
with other questions we received. We however want to hear from the users so
we can continue to provide you the service you require and deserve. We have structured this
page with a question that was asked by our users of CMD. The answer is given
directly after the question. We also numbered each question and answer with
the same number so you could determine what answer went with what question. 1. Question: I have reviewed several K-9 programs on the market today and was curious how you think your program compares to KATS? It seems that all other K-9 programs our agency looked over are simply copycats of KATS and your program. Our agency is not very computer knowledgeable but we need a simple system to protect us and to maintain our training records. We know how to train K-9’s but don’t know a lot about computers and how they can assist us in our daily training and incident task. Can you give us some feedback about CMD? 1. Answer: First of all, we do not
dictate how you should run your K-9 organization. We rely on your valuable
input to make the program better and better. We use your direct input to
build our new releases. But we do know how to make the program very easy to
operate. We promise you that we will not force you to learn some confusing
interface that nobody can understand. Our program is very straightforward and
easy to learn but very powerful to the end user. Well-educated Software
Engineers and Law Enforcement professionals that have more than 20 years of
experience in the field and in the United States Air Force have designed
Canine Management Database (CMD). We have been around the world more than
once when it comes to designing useable user-friendly secured program
applications. All of us pride ourselves on serving software needs and K-9
organization needs throughout the industry. We have been around long enough
to know that the customer is the driving force for any new idea (especially
K-9 programs) and we listen to new and exciting ideas. We are very excited to
bring you Canine Management Database which has been designed from the
requirements of experienced K-9 handlers located throughout the world. We
have put together the most comprehensive YEAR 2000 COMPLIANT (meeting the DOD
specification) K-9 program for the industry. We have been catching the eyes
of several agencies (over 1000 different handlers) that are very interested in the program or have
already purchased the software. Our clientele list is growing every day. We
are very user oriented. We want you to succeed in your job by protecting your
interest. CANINE
MANAGEMENT DATABASE HAS FINALLY SET THE STANDARD FOR TRACKING INCIDENT AND
TRAINING ACTIVITY FOR K-9 LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES. This program is not!
just a typical database program. We have reports that concentrate on animal
behavior and on every aspect of K-9 Law Enforcement Agency tracking. These
agencies DO NOT have to re-key any information about K-9 incident records
into their overall master records system. Our program simple ties into the
incident generated from your agency host computer system. This will save you
more time than you think. As another plus, this
system has been designed specifically for tracking advanced K-9 Training and
Incident Activity. You will find that this program will track any activity
you need. As needs grow, we are there to provide you with new or modified
reports in a timely manner. We have created several custom reports for our customers
to meet their needs. These are professional reports that will serve your
needs well and pass them on to every customer of the program as they are
completed. We have a Demo CD package that we send to agencies
interested in the program that completely exposes CMD's features for proposal
needs. The package includes the auto-start CD demo, the software user manual,
the current report package (bound) and program comparisons. This will provide
you with the firepower you need to convince your management that this program
is for you. We will support your electronic K-9 records needs and be with you to make you feel comfortable with what you're doing. We promise you that. 2. Question: I guess I need your
help. In the last couple of weeks I've finally got around to getting all my
notes and statistics together and started working with the program. The
problem is when I go to add incident and case agent names, it over writes any
names I've put in previously. I've reviewed the Software Users Manual several
times and even removed and reinstalled the program. Obviously I must be
missing a step somewhere. So if you can brief me on the proper steps to
follow when entering master name table entries, I would appreciate it. 2. Answer: You load master "Case
Agents", "Master Names" and "Master Vehicle" entries
all the same. For your case agent problem, if you haven't assisted this
agency before, then you must create a new case agent entry. If you have this
person already in the case agent table, then you must find this persons
record (use the search icon at top right of form) then press the "Load
Agent" button at top of master case agent form. This will load the key
back into the incident case agent form and link this person to your report
(Don't overwrite any case agent information already in the table. You must
either find this person or create a new entry and then link it to the
incident.). If you cannot find this person in the master case agent table,
then you must create a new entry in this table. Use either the keyboard or
the mouse to do this. With the keyboard, press the <Ctrl> and + keys
simultaneously and this will add a new master case agent record. Then start
entering the new name information. After you finished, press the "Load
Agent" button to link the case agent to the incident report. Follow the
same procedure using the mouse but first press the icon at bottom middle of
master case agent form that has the arrow and star in the icon. This will
also create a new table record so you can enter new information. 3. Question: How do I use the "Backup" and Restore" utilities that
you provide with your software? 3. Answer: GC Software is the only
software company that offers a complete backup and restore utility with all
of our products. You will not find that support anywhere in the world! Canine Management
Database comes with a set of utility programs that allow you to backup your
data from your working hard disk system to a multiple floppy disk backup set.
We also provide you with a "Restore" utility that can take your
latest floppy disk backup set and restore them back to your hard disk in case
you lose your data. In the following paragraphs, we will describe what is
needed to take advantage of the backup and restore utilities. Formatting your floppy
disk: First, we recommend you
format five 1.44Mb 3.5" floppy disk. If you have bought disks that are
preformatted, we still recommend you format the disk from scratch so that
there are no bad spots on the disk. After you format a disk, if there are any
bad spots that show up, then don't use this disk for your backup disk
purposes. Make sure that each disk you use has no bad spots after they have
been formatted or else you will lose data at some point in time and possible
make you backup set unreadable. Preparing your backup
disk: After you have
formatted five floppy disk, you will need to copy five files from your
installation CD to each floppy disk. This means, if you have five floppy
disks you want to use for your backup set, then you would copy all of the
backup files to each disk (not just the first disk). These five backup
program files are Backup.bat, Restore.bat, Test.bat, Pkzip.exe and
Pkunzip.exe and are located in the \Install\Cmd32\Backup folder on the
installation CD. Copy all five files to each floppy disk in your backup set
and place a label on each disk to number them (i.e. Disk 1, Disk 2,...). Backing up your data: You are now ready to
test your backup set. Place the first disk of your set into the floppy drive
and run the program "Backup.bat". You should see a DOS window open
up and the backup process will start. If more than one disk is required to
backup all of your data, then the program will prompt you to enter the next
disk in your backup set. Continue on until your entire data has been backed
up. Now run the program called "Test.bat" from the first disk. This
will test if your backup set is readable. Restoring data from a
backup set: The reverse operation
is "Restore.bat". This program will take your backup set and
restore it to the "C:\CMD32" folder. You can use this program to
transfer data back and forth between your base station and a laptop if this
is your case and also use it as your backup set. To transfer or restore your data back to "C:\CMD32" folder, you will need to run the "Restore.bat" program located on your backup set (use the last disk in your backup set and run the restore program from this disk). Make sure that the red light on the floppy disk drive has turned off before you take out the floppy disk. When this light is on, the drive is still spinning inside and could cause damage to the disk if ejected prematurely. You should now be prompted to insert the first disk in the backup set. Follow the on screen instructions until you have restored your set to the hard disk. You will now be ready to use the data on your laptop or from a restore. |
